Description:

Marrakesh, a former imperial city in western Morocco, is a major economic center and home to mosques, palaces and gardens. The medina is a densely packed, walled medieval city dating to the Berber Empire, with mazelike alleys where thriving souks (marketplaces) sell traditional textiles, pottery and jewelry. A symbol of the city, and visible for miles, is the Moorish minaret of 12th-century Koutoubia Mosque.

Itinerary:

Day 1: Marrakech - Ait Ben Haddou - Boumalen Dades

Starting from the red city of Marrakech, we lead an authentic trip to the Sahara desert of Zagora passing by many surprising and cozy sites. After crossing the Tizin’Tichka Pass, visiting the kasbahs along the way is a must. Stating by TélouatKesbah which is an architectural jewel located in the village of the same name in the south of the kingdom. Abandoned, the building still resists the onslaught of climate change and reflects the passage of one of the richest pashas during the French protectorate. The Kasbah was built in 1860 by the Glaoua, then enlarged during the first half of the twentieth century by Thami El Glaoui at the height of its power. The strategic position of the Kasbah proved the power and influence that Thami El Glaoui had.The fortress offers a breathtaking view of the Berber villages and the green mountains. After that we go straight on to the UNESCO World Heritage Kasbah of AïtBenhaddou. One of the well-preserved fortified cities and most spectacular kasbahs in Morocco that make you touch the humble life of the Berber villages around. Then we go west to Taznakht, the capital carpet village which is famous for colorful handwoven carpets woven by local berber women. In there you can have lunch and get some rest. Later on we head through a rocky area until we reach the town FoumZguid, which is located at the edge of the Sahara desert. In this magical bivouac you will spend a splendid night under a beautiful starry sky in a traditional Berber nomad tent in a bucolic setting.

Diving in the desert is a unique experience to discover a surprising culture and payesage. Crossing Erg Lbour and hamadaDraa then make the visit to the sacred oasis before arriving to Erg Chigaga dune. The silence and the expanse of the sand are overwhelming. Once there you can profit from a camel ride and enjoy the beautiful last sun rays of sunset in the womb of the huge Sahara dunes.Dinner with music of local Berber songs around fire will be served under the open staring sky. In there you will spend a memorable cozy night in the tent or outside full of fascinating surprises.

Waking up early enough to entertainyour eyes with the warmth of the sun rays during the sunrise, we head toward the city of Tamegrout, the region’s religious centre.
